A child's natural state of being is perpetual motion. But everything from carseats to school classrooms dampens their natural propensity for twirling, playing, jumping, and dancing. Studio 4 Kids is designed to preserve the innate mover while building new skills and developing a lifelong appreciation of the body's possibilities.

Aligned with First Lady Michelle Obama's initiative to eliminate childhood obesity within a generation, Studio 4 Kids gets children moving at every age. Starting with our Mommy/Daddy & Me classes, babies as young as 3 months old benefit from moving through space with a parent, experiencing direction change, balance, and weight bearing. Plus, it's a great workout for Mom or Dad! As they grow, self-expression through movement becomes critical for kids' self-confidence, gross motor development, and mind-body coordination. Studies have shown that active children do better in school, are more socially confident, and have fewer behavior problems than inactive children. Additionally, regular physical activity combined with healthy eating helps to prevent stroke, heart disease, and cancer in adulthood. Children need at least one hour of vigorous activity each day to grow up to be a healthy weight.

Unlike a traditional dance school, Studio 4 Kids unlocks the creativity and teaches the body mechanics that transfer anywhere that a child directs his or her focus. For example, the core work of Pilates can easily be transferred to sports, gymnastics, or swimming, while the balance and calming work of yoga are wonderful skills to have for public speaking, for example. We do offer Creative Dance, Hip Hop, and Ballet, but the philosophy underlying our curriculum emphasizes attention to aligment, mechanics, and body awareness, concepts often overlooked or underprioritized at traditional dance studios. These concepts not only prevent injury and promote good form in the moment, but continue to influence children as adult movers. Working from this strong base, children are encouraged to explore their own creative movement ideas, a reminder that dance is an art form and the tool is the body!
